During the report, the reporter said that in the media is not controlled only by one man. Media is controlled by many people whose goal is to earn profits. Media gives us information which is sometimes not really necessary for us. We must not blame the media men because truly they are for profits because they are business men. What we should do is that we should be careful in dealing about media because its effects somehow brings negative image to us. We must not be too much attached on the media because if this will happen, media will easily control us and then we become addicted to it which is not good. Moderation must be considered because everything which is extreme will destroy us easily especially the media.

In the report, what I understood is that there is money in media especially in making advertisements in television, in the internet, etc. This report is about telling us about the dynamics of money in media. What we should do is that we must be more aware on how the media functions in our lives. In the economic perspective in media, we are the consumers and we must only entertain the things that would help us, the needs must be prioritize than the wants.

After reading the message of His Holiness to the priests and religious, I realized how the media world really affected and helped priests and religious in preaching the words of God. In the present situation of our world, we are really bombarded by the power of media and these modern communications. there are many helps that we can get from the media. Moreover, as a seminarian and a student, the subject “social communications” will really help me in knowing and understanding better the importance of media and how to use the media in a right way. Even though I am not a priest because I am still pursuing to be one, I can already use the media in communicating what I know about the words of God to my friends and even to the strangers. This will happen if I know well on how is the right way in approaching the media. To be a good spreader of good news, I must first at least be a media literate so that I will avoid ignorance.In addition, in one way or another, media can become a great tool for everybody in social interaction with one another. In our present age, we live in a modern world where technology is present and available. What we should do is to make use of this modern technology in a right and proper way for the good of all of us.
The media is a great gift coming from God and we, men and women, should make use of it in accordance to God’s words. This media is a great tool that can accompany us in preaching or spreading the good news. Even if I am not a priest, I can still share what I know about God to my fellow brothers and sisters. In this way, at least I can say that I’ve done my part as a believer, as a Christian. The great help that the media gives to us is that we are able to communicate other people from different places without putting much effort. It is not laziness; rather, it is one of the uses of media and through the media, we can give witness to God by preaching via media. We can enter into different cultures to inculturate them and teach them the words of Christ.
Concerning motion picture: Movies are powerful in transmitting ideas on men.
Most family now a day has television in their houses. Having no television means that you are not “in” and not updated on the things that are happening in the world. We may say that television is good because it transmits something to the viewer but it must be verified that the things it transmits must not destroy our inner self and our morality. What we must do is to be critical in viewing television because it sometimes leads us into a trap where we cannot stand anymore because of the great force pushing us down. What happens sometimes is that television transmits useless things which we erroneously think are useful but it is on the other way around. Even children are affected because they are very fun in watching television. They may experience happiness in watching but the parents must see to it that their child is not extremely exposed on television.
When I was a kid, television was already there. I am also fun of watching television specially those of fictions such as cartoons, superheroes, etc. I enjoyed watching them and sometimes my aunt would scold me because she’s always saying that “masisira ang mata mo.” Of course I did not listen to my aunt and still continue to watch television. Then I studied, elementary, high school, and college. At present, still watching television is my past time. I am not really sure if it is a past time because I watch four movies continually. Maybe it is already an addiction because I will start at 4pm and then maybe I will be finished until 11pm. If I am not yet contented, I will still watch another movie. Watching television since elementary was a hindrance for me in my study. I did not concentrate my studies because I concentrate in watching many useless movies. My realization was already too late because I can’t go back to the past to fix many things that I’ve done wrong. My eye vision now is blurry and sometimes I use eyeglasses because I feel pain. I already learned from my past experiences and I don’t want that my younger sister will do the same. That’s why I teach her that she should be moderate in watching television because it does not always transmit good things but also bad.

In the report, the reporter defined what news is all about. He said that news is the concrete events that have happened or still happening. While doing the news, newsmen have already biases on which will be published, is it this or is it that. Because of many events that are happening, newsmen have constraints in making the news like the deadline, sources, and geographical focus. To go deeper about what the news is all about, news are made for us t be informed but we should not automatically believe in everything the newsmen are saying or writing. I, as a student, should expose myself to more news and to analyze the news perspective. News helps us also to develop ourselves and to have discipline by getting the salient points that the news is picturing us. Again, the best stand in viewing news is that we should not automatically believe in everything. We, as a viewer should be critical because it would help us in our discipline and on our thinking.
Report of Bryan Campo concerning Entertainment Content
In the report, the reporter informed me and my classmates some information about what’s happening in the sphere of entertainment. I learned that the entertainment formula that the media is using is the same of the story telling like in comedy, drama, action, or horror style. It was also presented in the discussion the distinction between television world versus the real world. Media lets people know issues or controversies that are happening (violence, sex, language). Although there are some distractive (immoral) pictures that we see in the entertainment, it also imparts us values that we tend to follow. Entertainment can also be a form of relaxation if we feel that we are stressed and bored. What the entertainment wants us to be is to become conscious and more informed about the issues that are happening or that have happened.
Report of Christian Garnace on Development of the mass media industries:
During the report, what I understood is that we should become aware on the lifecycle of mass media. As I observed, in the mass media male employees are more than in number than females’. Mass media is part of our industry and if development on mass media happens, then our industry will progress. Mass media can help us to improve our social skills and communications. To be conscious on the things around us means that we are also conscious on the things that is happening in the mass media.

During the report, the reporter discussed advertisement and other criticisms about it. It was also discussed that the most important product of advertising is “you”. What happens is that we are being manipulated by advertisers so that we will buy their product. Further, the reporter also said that the advertisers do not care for social responsibilities because they are only aiming for economic purposes and most of the time their targets are the children. What I learned in this report is that I should develop and elaborate more my knowledge structures concerning advertisement. Advertisement views us many things which we really don’t need at all. We are just being manipulated because of the visual beauty we see. We should be wise in buying things and we should avoid unnecessary things because sometimes other things are useless. We should also ask opinions coming from other people so that we can be guaranteed on the things we purchased.
