After reading the message of His Holiness to the priests and religious, I realized how the media world really affected and helped priests and religious in preaching the words of God. In the present situation of our world, we are really bombarded by the power of media and these modern communications. there are many helps that we can get from the media. Moreover, as a seminarian and a student, the subject “social communications” will really help me in knowing and understanding better the importance of media and how to use the media in a right way. Even though I am not a priest because I am still pursuing to be one, I can already use the media in communicating what I know about the words of God to my friends and even to the strangers. This will happen if I know well on how is the right way in approaching the media. To be a good spreader of good news, I must first at least be a media literate so that I will avoid ignorance.In addition, in one way or another, media can become a great tool for everybody in social interaction with one another. In our present age, we live in a modern world where technology is present and available. Most family now a day has television in their houses. Having no television means that you are not “in” and not updated on the things that are happening in the world. We may say that television is good because it transmits something to the viewer but it must be verified that the things it transmits must not destroy our inner self and our morality. What we must do is to be critical in viewing television because it sometimes leads us into a trap where we cannot stand anymore because of the great force pushing us down. What happens sometimes is that television transmits useless things which we erroneously think are useful but it is on the other way around. Even children are affected because they are very fun in watching television. They may experience happiness in watching but the parents must see to it that their child is not extremely exposed on television.
When I was a kid, television was already there. I am also fun of watching television specially those of fictions such as cartoons, superheroes, etc. I enjoyed watching them and sometimes my aunt would scold me because she’s always saying that “masisira ang mata mo.” Of course I did not listen to my aunt and still continue to watch television. Then I studied, elementary, high school, and college. At present, still watching television is my past time. I am not really sure if it is a past time because I watch four movies continually. Maybe it is already an addiction because I will start at 4pm and then maybe I will be finished until 11pm. If I am not yet contented, I will still watch another movie. Watching television since elementary was a hindrance for me in my study. I did not concentrate my studies because I concentrate in watching many useless movies. My realization was already too late because I can’t go back to the past to fix many things that I’ve done wrong. My eye vision now is blurry and sometimes I use eyeglasses because I feel pain. I already learned from my past experiences and I don’t want that my younger sister will do the same. That’s why I teach her that she should be moderate in watching television because it does not always transmit good things but also bad.

We are very fun of advertisement that the mass media views on us. It is a great tool and very useful in many things because it can transmit good things. However, it also transmits bad things. As a viewer, we should be careful and critical in watching many things because some advertisements are not good in a sense that it will lead us to do bad things.
Advertisement and mass media are good for us because it is part of God’s plan. I see advertisements every time I watch television and even if I am using a computer browsing in the internet. As I watch many advertisements I observed that many things were really good for better communication and socialization. However, there are also advertisements which transmit immoral things that are very powerful especially to me and to the youth. Media is one of the greatest gifts that God gave to us. We are being united with other people outside our country and so we have a universal brotherhood. The media has a role in promoting the fundamental development of human persons and societies. With the help of media, a dialogue with the whole world is possible and easier. Evangelizing people is not that difficult because media is there as a tool that is handy to use. However, every body must be critical in viewing media because sometimes it brings us into another dimension which is not helpful to our salvation. Media views many things including immoralities and violence which is very harmful to every body’s soul. Media is very broad and it can also destroy the brotherhood with other people if careless actions happen. As a youth, discipline must be well observed because it would be a good part of my formation in dealing media. It would help me focus on the right information that I need and I will no longer look on other unnecessary things.

When I was a kid, I don’t have any idea of pornography because of the environment I lived in. I grew up in a mountainous area and my daily habit and past time were to fetch water, to plant crops together with my cousins, to gather woods from the forest, and to hunt wild animals together with my grandfather. These were my routine during my early life in this world. The progress of Communication is very fast. For the last 20 years communication was very difficult. In order for one to communicate with his distant relatives, he needs t send letter. But at present, by the use of cell phones, one can easily contact his/her distant relatives in an instant. One does not need anymore to go to the mailing office and wait for an hour in processing a letter. With just a minute, a message can be delivered by the use of cell phones. Social Communication is part of society. It became a helper of humankind in his daily living. Every seminarian must be oriented in these instruments of social communication. Not only seminarians but all of us because we are already living in a modernize world and we should be used to technologies. As a student being formed in a seminary to become a priest, these instruments of technology will really help me in my future ministry and it will also help me to discipline myself and the way I communicate with others having different cultures. The technology will assist me in my training and it will be a good companion during my apostolate.

Technology is one of the biggest man-made ever. It helps man in his day to day living. In addition, technology becomes so powerful in a sense that it becomes one of the necessities of man. With the help of technology, the impossible things during the ancients became possible now. Some typical examples are the cell phones, computer, televisions, radios, etc. Technology is somewhat addictive because man is already used to it and he is well attached to technology. It becomes now dangerous in a sense that man abuses the power of technology. It brings man’s knowledge into a deeper and wider space of time.
By the intellectual capacity of human beings, technology was invented for us to be facilitated. The knowledge of man is widened by the operation being done by technology. I was born in the modern age where technology was already much developed. It is true that man’s work was eased by the power of technology. The burdens of life become light and by technology, there is a rapid development on men and also societies. Technology helps me a lot ever since I was a kid. It shaped my being and my understanding on the things I encountered in my life. I became very conscious on the things that are happening in and outside of my residence. My responsibilities in our school and also in our family become stress-free. Contacting my distant relatives become easier by the use of technology. Man is easily informed from the distant places by the power of technology.
However, this technology, as I personally observed has negative impact on me. It draws me near to the things which I should not enter and it becomes like a heroine that I myself can’t control and stop. It becomes so powerful that I no longer control my body. What is happening is that the technology controls now my actions. Because of being attached too much to technology such as computer, it becomes one of my daily routine in everyday and if I don’t use computer for a day, it makes me crazy. Hence, I realized that in every thing that I should do, I should not go to the extreme. Technology is good but it should be used in a moderate way. It can easily help me but it can also easily destroy me if I will not guard myself on the things that technology offers me. Using technology gives us happiness in our lives but in reality it will never last, it will soon fade away. Technology maybe had many ideas store in their memories but it does not mean that man should comprehend all the ideas in it. The things that we should get from technology are the things we really need in life.
